Zimbabwe ramping up for biodiesel production
We found one more gem in
today’s announcements of new biodiesel production facilities. The southern African country Zimbabwe is preparing
for biodiesel production by buying jatropha seeds, a drought-resistant plant which is rich in oil, the Zimbabwe Herald reports. The plant is found in abundance in
an area of Zimbabwe, and the government is asking the people to gather the seeds in the forests, instead of waiting for
donated or government aid. A local legislator heralded the program as a way to make money, emphasizing that women should
be at the forefront of the jatropha program.[Source: The Zimbabwe Herald]

Re: "The Government, through the National Oil Company of Zimbabwe (Noczim), allocated $100 billion to promote the production of jatropha."
$100 billion Zimbabwe - what's that, about 50 bucks? The government wants to ramp up biodiesel production - dudes, maybe you shouldn't have chased all of your best farmers off their land and then given it to your cronies. I'll believe this when I see it.
