President Bush attempts to look green, can't help but help oil companies
Speaking of politicians, I think Talkingpointsmemo has an attitude worth remembering
whenever President Bush talks about the changes that America needs to go through in order to curb our addiction to oil.
While he’s willing to say we have an addiction to oil, he sure isn’t willing to take any action curb his
addiction to rhetoric about tax cuts. Bush’s statement that “We need to get off oil. The best way is to do
that through technology,” is wrong. The best way would be a large-scale restructuring of our economy, for people
to actively change their lifestyles. This is difficult, and there is no chance Bush (or almost any other elected
official) will call for that. What Bush means is that the only solution to oil addiction he’ll tolerate is one
that continues to use oil for the foreseeable future.[Source: Talkingpointsmemo.com, Image source: CNN]

This is just more Bush bashing not called for on this blog. If Ralph Nader were President, he would be unable to "make sweeping changes in lifestyle." Communists and socialists can "make sweeping changes in lifestyle," well, at least for the ones that they don't kill first.
Be the change that you want to have.

"The best way would be a large-scale restructuring of our economy, for people to actively change their lifestyles." Do you actually think that any president would either suggest that people abandon their current lifestyle or try to force them to (which would be necessary)? The consequences would be a step towards the Stone Age with everything that comes with it. This is simply not acceptable for any politician (except rabid socialists) or the majority of people. Bush is absolutely right that the only way out is by using technology. For a blogger here to actually suggest a "large-scale restructuring of our economy" rather than a technological solution is bizarre. Please, try to keep this blog a relevant forum, not an outlet for socialist fantasies.

Arnie and Clarence-
Can't stand that "Reality has a Liberal bias"?
Boo frickin' hoo.
Big Oil gets handouts from the US Taxpayers in the form of tax credits, US Miltary protection around the globe and now Bush is pushing for ANWAR drilling which will have minimal impact on oil supplies.
Big Oil is making Big profits while Americans are dieing in the Middle East. Obscene?
Them's the facts.
Your McCarthy-like attacks do not change the facts.
Peace!

What does this have to do with the choice between social/economic changes vs. a technological solution? Big Oil is getting handouts so I guess the technological solution will not work. What???
Or did what I said about socialist fantasies piss you off? Probably.
Regards,
Your friend McCarthy

I'm not here to defend the bloggers; just to point out that you and your other screen names are crying "socialist" whenever something or someone does not agree with your "the earth is flat" point of view.
