Chevron, Georgia Tech partner-up for cellulosic biofuels and hydrogen
The next step of Chevron's commitment to green fuels is to partner with the Georgia Institute of Technology to build up GT's Strategic Energy Institute in Atlanta in order to do "advanced research" into making cellulosic biofuels and hydrogen viable transportation fuels. Chevron will invest $12 million into the Institute, where the research will focus on how to turn forest and agricultural waste into fuel. The two partners will research four areas of biofuels: producing cellulosic biofuels, understanding biofuel feedstocks, developing reusable sorbents (which remove gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen during hydrogen production) and improving sorbents used to produce high-purity hydrogen.
