Michigan's first biodiesel plant update
I mentioned the other day that the biodiesel plant in Bangor, Michigan would be opening this month. Turns out I had the wrong information, and the plant will actually be ready to pump out its first gallons of the biofuel sometime in September. Yesterday's local TV news story where I saw the September date also updates another number I mentioned here when the news first came out. The plant will employ 22 people instead of 26. The benefits to the small town of Bangor remain the same, though. City Manager Larry Nielson told WWMT that the plant would add about $3.5 million in taxes to the town's $22 million tax base. No small change for the town. The city offered up tax incentives for around the next ten years to lure the plant to Bangor. [Source: WWMT]

Well, I wouldn't say that 3.5 is too little for this town. It's over 6% of all taxes of the city! And only one plant. It's like humor: "Chinese productivity has increased in two times. They built second factory" :)
