Twelve states getting diesel-electric hybrid school buses
Schools, as we mentioned recently, are under pressure to reduce the amount of diesel emissions from idling school buses. In what will hopefully be the first of many such deliveries, schools in twelve states will soon get buses powered by a diesel-electric hybrid system with plug-in capability. The State, based in South Carolina, reports that SC will get two of the 19 buses next spring. The buses are being built by IC Corp. and Enova Systems and are not cheap, costing about $200,000 per bus. This is thrice the average cost for "an energy-compliant diesel bus", according to the article. The federal Energy Department will grant SC $112,000 for the new-technology buses.

God-bless these people for helping to protect our kids from harmful diesel emissions...I am a college freshman, and I still choke over the memory of being forced to breathe in the awful diesel fumes.
