Ford's new diesel pickup will have "Cleanest, Quietest Power Stroke Engine Ever"

The 2008 Ford Super Duty, available early in 2007, will have a new 6.4-liter Power Stroke diesel engine that will be Ford's cleaners and quietest diesel engine ever sold in America. The new engine uses an advanced diesel particulate filter which, when combined with ultra low-sulfur diesel fuel, "will provide particulate emissions levels that are equivalent to gasoline engines" according to Ford. The filter "scrubs black smoke from exhaust gases and periodically cleans itself via advanced engine controls". The new truck will be unveiled in Texas at the State Fair on September 28 (a current Super Duty truck is pictures above).
I wonder what Jason Crawford would do with one of these.

Now, if they would just put a smaller diesel into the Ranger, I might buy one.

Sorry, the engine is actually bigger than it was previously.
Another Bold Move!

Oh come on Jake, I'm no big Ford fan but that's just an unfair comment. Yes Ford is enlarging the engine, but they're doing it to allow them to detune it a bit, it'll put up very similar power numbers.
I for one, will be very surprised if it's mpg rating won't be a bit better than the current engine's... Which may be no great feat but at least they don't deserve to get bashed for doing it.

"I'm no big Ford fan but that's just an unfair comment."
The comment that the motor size was increased is an unfair comment? I am not reading you.
"Yes Ford is enlarging the engine, but they're doing it to allow them to detune it a bit"
Another waste of natural resources! :-> Like it was tuned for anthing but eating oil to begin with.
"it'll put up very similar power numbers."
I would hope so.

I again don't recall bashing anything. I just thought it was rather bold in these times to increase the engine displacement. But you have corrected me. The increase was necessary so that it could be detuned to achieve better MPG. In other words the old motor was to small and had to be worked harder to haul the vehicle around? That is what I am gathering from you.
Look I think any improvement is great and that any manufacture that does at least something is ok.
Jake.

Well at least Ford managed to come up with a nice alternative to fuel problems. Now if only the company will be able to provide the same engine for most of their trucks.
