Minnesota's Metro Transit to buy 150 hybrid buses, double biodiesel content in fuel supply

Minnesota Governor Pawlenty announced last week that the state would dramatically increase (in some cases already has increased) its investment in alternative fuels. These are the highlights of the plan: the state's Metro Transit division will purchase an additional 150 hybrid buses, the state government's vehicles that run on E85 have increased by 53 percent since last year, the Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport now has a 6,000 gallon E85 tank, and the fuel used by Metro Transit will change from B5 to B10 in mid-2007 (and they have been testing B20 in some buses).

Aside from the hybrid buses, Metro Transit will also replace 164 buses with cleaner-burning diesel engine buses. It's all part of the division's "Go Greener" initiative, which aims to reduce emissions by 168 tons a year and replace 1.23 million gallons of fossil fuel with renewable energy sources.
