New Monopoly game board features Toyota Prius

A modern update of the popular board game Monopoly now offers a Toyota Prius as one of the player tokens. Other new tokens include McDonald's fries and a computer.
The revised game called "Monopoly: Here and Now Edition" was unveiled Tuesday and features new properties in addition to new game pieces. The monetary denominations will also be significantly higher to reflect the purchase of such landmarks as Florida's South Beach. Airports have also replaced the railroads, and the Chance and Community Chest card will be more relevant to today's lifestyles. No mention if jail has been changed.
Those who own the classic version can still bring out the '30s-style racecar to use on the board. If memory serves, that game piece was supposedly modeled after the roadster that the Chairman of the Board, Mr. Monopoly himself, drove. Also, wasn't there a special edition a few years ago where the roadster was stretched?

This game has been there for more than fifty years. It's like a fine wine. Why to change the game which has been so successful. And I agree the Cuban cigars are always good whether smuggled or not.

This totally stinks! Monopoly is a classic and should be left alone! Maybe they should just have this as a modern edition instead, I personally hope they continue to sell the classic version . . . I grew up playing this with my parents and sisters! Monopoly has some fond memories for me! BOOOOOOO!

The mickeyD's Fries really shows where the Parker Bros really got the idea to change the game. Now its just a joke. A sad joke.

No big surprise as it seems even something as classic as this game board must attach some corporate name to it. How tacky - McDonald's and a cheapo car? Isn't anything sacred anymore??? And I wonder how much Parker Bros was paid to do this??

Why can't Classic things from the past stay that way? I agree with the other person, make it a modern edition, but give the choice of the Classic version as well! I feel that in this "modern" society, we are leaving behind all of the fun, and just seeing companies wanting to ruin and revamp for the Almighty Dollar...it was bad enough they put MOnoploy and Candyland on CD ROM, how lazy is that? Half the fun was setting up the boards and moving the pieces around physically by hand, not joy stick!
I know that I will never buy a Modern Edition of any classic game, as the fun has been taken out of it.

My 48 year old husband and 7 year old son still play the original version and love it. My son has learned so much about math, it's been a joy to all of us. He can tell you exactly what the rents are on each property (with or without houses) without even looking at the cards. Newer isn't always better.

Coca Cola tried this a few years ago by introducing a new Coke formula---and guess what happened? They had to quickly re-introduce a "new" product called Classic Coke---based on the original formula. When will these "masterminds" of industry understand that "change for the sake of change" is the most stupid and moronic concept to ever come down the pike??? Leave my Monopoly and my memories the Hell alone.

Click on "update" at the top of the article. More info says Hasbro will continue to sell the original edition of the game. The Here and Now edition -$3o, original-$12 to $20. Also more info on tokens properties etc.

Relax! This is just an opportunity for the Monopoly people to sell another version of the same game. I myself have "Star Wars Monopoly" and "Star Trek Monopoly," and anybody remember all the versions based on different cities and colleges? I also have the original classic version, and our family plays them all.

"The updated “Here and Now Edition” was scheduled to go on sale Thursday, however, Hasbro will continue to sell the original edition of the game, based on the classic version brought out by Parker Brothers in 1935, alongside the new edition."
So, this updated version will be sold as well as the classic version. However, the fact that they're charging $30 for this "edition" of Monopoly as opposed to the $12 price of the classic version is a bit much! I think I'll stick with the classics. This is nothing more than corporate BS. With all the money they got from Motorola, Toyota, McDonald's, and Starbucks, you would think that they would be able to GIVE this game away!

I like the idea of a newer version with updated properties and realistic property values, a worthy update.

Monoply and ignorance don't mix..French fries are a health hazard and should be on their way out. Informed people are aware of that. I always felt that Monopoly was a high brow game. I have lost that loving feeling... How sad.

Come on folks, what's wrong with an updated version
of an old game. My grandsons are totally in love with
the classic game, but look forward to having the
new one as well.
They also have a Disney version, and years ago there
was a St Louis version. I sent that to my daughter
and son-in-law the frist Christmas they were married.
So come on folks. No one says you have to purchase
a new one. Whats wrong with a new version for those
who want an updated playing board. I assure you
there will be one under our Christmas Tree!

Old saying _"IF IT AIN'T BROKE---DON'T FIX IT" !!!
I say leave the classic game alone. It will not be so much fun chasing a sack of potatoes around the board.
Thank you.. Barbara

first woolworth's vanuished, then comics shot up in proce, then classic t.v shows gqave way to extreme crap. now monopoly is being revised, PLEASE for the love of god, do not forget that the original is the best. Make this new edition a special edition like the ones modeled after STAR WARS, STAR TREK, DC/Marvel comics, etc. don't take away something we all grew up with

I think you people are pathetic making a big deal out of this. People have already mentioned that the Classic Edition is Staying, So why Boo-hoo Over it? For real? Of Course They're Selling out to Corporate Companies, Thats what smaller Companies need to do now days to survive. Dont you People see this? I know it is Pathetic, but that is what our country has become. Everything Belongs to somebody else, that really has nothing to do with Who or why they started their Business in the First Place. I think you all need to stop your Whining and accept that The World around you is Changing, and there are more important things to worry about than Damn board games.

how many of you are still watching home movies with slides and a projection screen? are you still listening to your LP records, driving your 1955 chevy? no you are probably driving new cars, listening to cd's or satelite radio and own at least 2 dvd players, RIGHT!!! so what is the big deal if monopoly updates they're game. They don't force you to buy it and it's not like they are taking the "classic" off the shelves. get over it!
