Ford's "Save the Mustangs" program wins 2006 Outstanding Take Pride Supporter award

It's a different kind environmental award for a car company. The U.S. Department of the Interior and Take Pride in America awarded Ford Motor Company the 2006 Outstanding Take Pride Supporter for Ford's "Save The Mustangs" program Thursday. "Save the Mustangs" has, since May 2005, worked to raise awareness of wild horses in America and tries to get them adopted in non-profit sanctuaries. So far, 2,000 wild horses have been "Saved" and the fund has collected over $200,000. Ford is now offering non-profit horse rescue groups $100 per horse given a new home. Take Pride in America and the Bureau of Land Management helped start the "Save the Mustangs" program with Ford.
An aside to Ford: I noticed you put the Save the Mustangs project into the "Good Work" section of your website. This does unfortunately imply that all projects that get placed in other areas of the website fall into the" Bad Works" category. You may want to rethink this naming structure.

Hats off (and a huge thank you) to Ford Motor Company for pledging to provide long-term support for thousands of wild mustangs and burro's that run free on public rangeland. It's nice to see a company other than JUST those involved with "animal rights" come to the aid of the wild mustang and burro's that are living legacies of our nations "western" history. Money that they donate is distributed to "eligible wild horse and equine rescue groups to help place thousands of mustangs into private, long-term care." Ford Motor Company and our nations Bureau of Land Management will use the money to help "keep herd populations at a level that allows them to thrive in balance with other rangeland resources and uses. In managing the public lands for multiple uses, the BLM has determined that the public rangelands under its jurisdiction can support a free-roaming population of 28,000 wild horses and burros." Older wild horses will be sold for $10.00 to equine rescue groups and as of April, 2006, the BLM had 8,200 older mares and geldings to sell to rescue groups. A++ to Ford Motors. It is about time the BIG corporations helped out those who cannot have a voice in their lives. Hubby and I both have "Rescue" horses and they are the sweetest animals to own. They truly know what you have done. How about one of the BIG corporations getting behind stopping the slaughter of these and other horses for steaks overseas!!!
