Sheetz gets more E85 pumps in Pittsburgh

At a Pittsburgh-area Sheetz gas station right about now (the event was scheduled to start at 1:30) six representatives from Sheetz, GM, VeraSun Energy, and the DoE's National Energy Technology Laboratory are fielding questions from the media and just your regular average customer about E85, how it is made and how it can be used. Sheetz, VeraSun and GM have been working in Pennsylvania to make ethanol available at more gas stations for a while, and GM has announced partnerships that have helped or will help open over 160 new E85 stations by the end of the year. The panel at the station is set to mark the opening of an E85 pump at two more Pittsburgh-area stations. VeraSun Energy, the nation's second largest ethanol producer, supplies the fuel. You can see a list of Sheetz locations that offer E85 here.

Not that will ever hear about these pumps again, but it would be interesting to check back in a year and see how much E85 they've actually dispensed. I'm guessing not much.

The whole Ethanol thing sounds too good to be true - and you mark my words: The big Oil Companies will NOT let it be sold for the long term in the USA, as it will quickly cut into their already outrageous profits. They know Ethanol is a cleaner, more economical solution for fuel in this country, but alas, the Oil Conglomerates have WAAAAY too many gazillions of dollars at stake to let someone come into the picture and steal a penny of their profits. They will come out with every Ethanol-caused accident, situation or problem from it (like Gasoline is so safe!! HA!) and they'll eventually scare the public so badly (as we're 99% sheep, don't forget!) and Ethanol will no longer be an option in America before it even gets started. You watch and remember you read it here first: Ethanol will NOT survive. Thanks again for NOTHING, Oil Companies. :(

I would guess that there will be quite a bit of ethanol sold as fuel, because of its Political Correctness -- note the picture of the pump in the article: "Corn-based fuel". Remember, ethanol production is not really about ethanol; it's about buying the votes of corn (and other grain) farmers to enrich ADM.
Ethanol will be sold via government coercion or massive tax subsidy, unless some way is discovered to produce it much more economically. However, if the more economical production doesn't involve corn, then it won't be nearly as Politically Correct anymore.
Corn farmers have already successfully blocked import of less expensive sugarcane-based ethanol. It will be interesting (and amusing, no doubt) to see how they try to block domestic cellulose=based ethanol.
