Presidential Edition Mariner Hybrid at the 2006 Clinton Global Initiative

Former President Bill Clinton may want America's children to slim down, but he's still in favor of big SUVs. Luckily, Clinton's currently favorite is the Mercury Mariner Hybrid "Presidential Edition", which is the "Official Hybrid Vehicle" of the 2006 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI). The CGI opens today and the Presidential Edition" is the first hybrid vehicle to be outfitted for presidential service.
The "Presidential Edition" Mariner gets 32 mpg city and 29 mpg on the highway, which is just a tab worse than the standard edition's 33/29. Perhaps it's all the security features that weigh the SUV down. The full hybrid Mariner can go 25 miles per hour on zero-tailpipe emission electric power and the 2.3-liter gasoline shuts down when it is not needed, such as during coasting, idling at stoplights, and crawling through slow traffic. The Clinton Global Initiative is a project of the Clinton Foundation that aims to make measurable difference in the fight against climate change.

Well it's only fitting that the President will use a green vehicle for his global campaigns and issues. Clinton will enjoy the vehicle as it features a swing-up desk, a refrigerator and some exciting electronic devices.

Nice wheels Bill, but it could have been so much better if you could have plugged it in. See what I mean at http://phev.wikispaces.com, home of the plug-in hybrid wannabes!
