GM Vice Chair Lutz's blog post on GM's future

GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz has been on the pro-hydrogen warpath (and in the news) a lot recently. Not content to be quoted in media outlets around the world, Lutz wrote his own post on the GM FastLane blog yesterday. In it, he kept up the pro-hydrogen fuel cell message, and warned that any publicly-available details about when GM will make fuel cell production vehicles and how much the process will cost are nothing but speculation.

What I found most interesting in Lutz's post is his enthusiasm for EVs. He wrote: "I truly believe that electric-drive vehicles have a real future in this country and around the world; the only question is the nature of the power source or sources". In fact, Lutz doesn't really take any options off of the table for future GM cars: plug-in hybirds, more gasoline-electric hybrids and, of course, more E85-capable vehicles are all possible. GM's goal of putting one million hydrogen vehicles on the global market - at a profit - remains in place.
