Detroit Diesel's new Series 60 going through the paces to meet upcoming Australian emissions standards
A new emissions standard, called Australian Design Rules (ADR) 80.1, kicks in on Jan. 1, 2008 in Australia and Detroit Diesel's new Series 60 engine is being tested to comply with the stricter rules. The real-world testing is being done by customers in Australia and will amount to over 14 million miles of driving. The engine is being tested this far in advance of the new rules coming into effect because it also needs to be ready for the United State's EPA rules when the Series 60 is sold on the NAFTA market next year. Detroit Diesel has been selling versions of the Series 60 in Australia since 1989 but this version is the first to receive such specialized testing in the country.
