Philadelphia suburb might be heading into hybrid SUV land

The greening of municipal fleets continues. The township of Warminster, Pennsylvania is the latest to think of saving gas money at the pump by turning in large SUVs for hybrid versions. In Warminster's case, the vehicles that may be removed from the fleet (if grants of $2,000 per vehicle come in from the Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Program and other budgetary concerns are met) are police department and fire marshal vehicles that would be replaced by hybrid Ford Escapes. Township supervisor Richard Luce Jr. said the standard SUVs are due for replacement because they have over 100,000 miles on the odometer. Luce is also considering exchanging public works vehicles with CNG-powered ones when the time comes to replace them.
