SEMA 2006: No 4.2L Cummins in Jeep Wrangler concept

What's going on with the Jeep Wrangler diesel concept vehicle on display in the Mopar booth at the SEMA Show? An early news release said it sports a 4.2-liter V6 diesel engine. The wheelstand sign says 4.2-liter diesel engine. We've heard Cummins say they're building a 4.2-liter diesel for light-duty DaimlerChyrsler applications. But peeking under the hood I find a 3.0-liter common-rail diesel engine. None of the Mopar personnel on duty would talk, just saying that it's a concept vehicle and can't explain the sign. We know that Jeep will offer a 3.0-liter CRD, which is made by Mercedes-Benz, in the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. So it appears that someone at Jeep is having too much fun teasing us about the possibility of Cummins engine in a Wrangler. Judging by the response from our earlier post, maybe Jeep should rethink its concept.
More pictures after the jump.

Any possibility the engine cover is simply wrong? Anyone brave enough to pop the plastic off and see what's underneath?

I'm guessing by these two links, that the Wrangler with the 4.2 is still strapped to a dyno somewhere, and carmakers hate empty trade show floors, good detective work, Mike. Assuming the 4.2 version is forthcoming, imagine what a stump puller this'll be running biodiesel,Yaa-hooo!

From Wikipedia:
Cummins is reportedly working on a 4.2 L V6 and 5.6 L V6 for use in Dodge trucks in the 2010 timeframe[1]. This future engine family uses an aluminum head with 4-valves per cylinder and overhead cams on a thin-wall iron block. High-tech variable-nozzle turbochargers and Piezo-electric direct injection will also be used. The V6 is specified at 190 hp (142 kW) and 455 ft·lbf (617 N·m) and will compete with Ford's 4.4 L AJD-V8, while the V8 produces 260 hp (194 kW) and 597 ft·lbf (809 N·m) and will take on the current Ford Power Stroke and GM Duramax V8s.

They have all ready started to hire at Cummins C.M.E.P. for the new line. Look for them to be limited in 2008.
