Peterbilt shows off medium-duty hybrid truck
Peterbilt says its new Class 7 hybrid medium-duty truck is good for a 30 to 40 percent reduction in fuel consumption. The company will show off a production-representative model at the Hybrid Truck Users Forum this month in San Diego. The Model 335 will be in limited production and will use a Paccar PX-6 engine that is compliant with the new EPA emissions standards. The parallel hybrid system was developed with Eaton, and the truck will also use regenerative braking. Lower maintenance costs are expected since the engine's workload is assisted by the electric motor and the brakes won't have to be used as much.
