Kurt Cobain and biodiesel; unlikely partners in NYT article
So the Democrats took control of Congress on Tuesday. Good for them. Surprisingly, they did it even after Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell, of Washington state, compared biodiesel to Kurt Cobain, saying each could be a "hero" in Cobain's home town of Aberdeen, Wash.
Cantwell's statement comes In a somewhat jarring article by New York Times writer Timothy Egan. Egan wrote about Cobain (singer/guitarist for Nirvana) and a new biodiesel plant being built in Aberdeen. The plant will be the country's biggest. Aberdeen has been having a rough time economically for a while, and Egan mashes together the despair Cobain felt, the economic hardships and how Imperium Renewables' new 100 million gallons a year biodiesel plant will bring jobs to the area, and possibly an economic resurgance. IR president John Plaza is thinking big. He said the plant's construction is "is not just the foundation of a physical plant, but the foundation of an entire movement."
Look, AutoblogGreen readers know I like alternative energies. I like biodiesel a lot. But only one person from Aberdeen can claim to be the foundation of an entire movement, and it's not John Plaza.
