Consumer Federation of America calling for mandatory fuel-economy standards
A consumer group, citing a new study that shows 9 of 13 automakers have CAFE numbers lower than 10 years ago, is calling on Congress for mandatory fuel-economy standards. The Consumer Federation of America showed off its new 13-page report titled, "Stuck in Neutral: America's Failure to Improve Vehicle Fuel Efficiency." It said the lack of improvement is a result of a shift in consumer tastes for trucks and SUVs. But the group also noted that consumers aren't properly informed about fuel-efficient vehicles and there are more advertising and incentives for SUVs.[Source: David Shepardson/Detroit News]

So this consumer group is calling on government to limit what consumers have the freedom to buy. This consumer group has decided that consumers are too stupid to inform themselves about what cars get what gas mileage, even though that information is far more easy to obtain than ever before, absolutely for free.
This consumer group judges that despite having enormous freedom to buy a wide range of vehicles, consumers keep making foolish mistakes.
Actually I don't think this consumer group really represents consumers at all -- why don't they just admit they think consumers are idiots and must be coerced by government into doing things they don't want to do?

By that logic, drugs should be legalized. We don't need the government to limit what consumers have the freedom to buy.

Well if there was a "Drug Legalization Federation of America", I assume they WOULD be promoting the legalization of drugs, not the opposite!
