Record-setting John Deere tractors in United Kingdom
United Kingdom farmlands will be groomed with cleaner power as the John Deere 8430 tractor grows in the numbers. In tests earlier this summer at the Nebraska Tractor Test Lab, the 8430 recorded the most fuel-efficient numbers of a row-crop tractor. John Deere officials say the 8430 delivers an 8.8 percent improvement in fuel efficiency. Tractors have a different rating system for fuel efficiency than cars do: horsepower hours per gallon. It means that burning a single gallon of fuel at full load and at rated engine speed, the engine produces a certain amount of horsepower for an hour. The new tractor is rated at 18.65 hp-hr/gal vs 17.13 hp-hr/gal with the previous model. Some of the fuel efficiency tricks include variable geometry turbocharger, exhaust gas recirculation and four valves per cylinder.[Source: Farming UK]
