Toyota Land Cruiser diesel SUV gets stronger, cleaner in Europe

Baby steps, baby steps, are what will make SUVs cleaner and cleaner.
Toyota Motor Europe has announced minor improvements to its Land Cruiser SUV lineup: lowered CO2 emissions, Euro IV compliant across the board and slightly more power for the 3.0 liter D-4D.
The better fuel economy means the three-door V6 now emits 288 grams of CO2 per kilometer (the five-door puts out 291 gm/k). The new numbers are due to fitting a flex lock-up system to the automatic gearbox, giving the V6 "increased lock-up clutch operation range by maintaining controlled slip." The 3.0-liter D-4D, which Toyota calls "already one of the most technically advanced diesel engines in the world", received an upgrade to 127 kW at 3,400 rpm, with the maximum torque band widened across 1,600 rpm to 2,800 rpm. This increase in power comes even with the Land Cruiser's improved fuel economy.

127kW = 170hp. I realize that torque is more important than hp in a large SUV like the Land Cruiser, especially when equipped with a Diesel. However, 170hp is nothing about which to brag.

Its 173hp and it is Land Cruiser 120 (GX's brother) not 100 pictured above, that has inline 6 diesel... It is strongest 4cl diesel in the world, with more torque than competing VW or XC90.
It is decently fast as it is, people in Europe are more concered with consumption which is quite good...

Race cars rely on HP, heavier vehicles and 4x4 need torque. Its torque that allows you to pull away without having to down changing a gear or two (or maybe more!).
Diesels respond better to performance mods when compared to petrol engines, so getting around another 29HP can be achieved in under 30 minutes, and thats before you consider addressing the exhaust system. I used an ENG-TEK Diesel Performance Tuning Module like this one; http://www.eng-tek.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=130
