GM may be making announcements about alternative fuel programs at LA Auto show
General Motors chairman Rick Wagoner will be making a speech this Wednesday at the Los Angeles auto show and is expected to make some announcements about upcoming alternative fuel vehicles the company is working on. Apparently Wagoner isn't expected to discuss details or unveil actual vehicles, but will instead outline GM's plans and strategy for rolling out new hybrids, electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles over the next few years. The series hybrid that they are developing along with the new parallel hybrids coming in 2008 will probably be the highlights. Product details and actual vehicle unveilings are still likely to come in January at the Detroit auto show. This speech is mostly to try and deflect some of the criticism GM got in the wake of the movie "Who Killed the Electric Car?" for their actions with the EV1 electric car. [Source: The AutoChannel]

We'll see if they actually build and sell them with competitive pricing. I’m not holding my breath. The Funds that own 59% of GM also own at least 10 times that much in oil company stocks. http://www.ev1.org/gmoil.htm. However, hope does spring eternal!

It is said that gasoline costs 10 times more than electricity. What if they charged, let's say, three times the current price of electricity for electricity used to recharge an electric car? It would still be way cheaper than gasoline and would probably be more profitable than gasoline. That would lure the big capital from oil to electricity.

George- I can make electricity at home with solar or wind. I can't do that with fossil fuels. I think it's more about monopoly and control. Nobody really likes competition. That’s why they resist bio-fuels like B100 bio-diesel or Pure VegOil and E100 which can be grown, produced and controlled locally with lots of competition. Instead they lobby for petroleum blends or Hydrogen which they can more easily monopolize. GM’s backers simply don’t want to give up their money and power. Who does? I don’t see many rich Saints…

supposedly the two-mode system debuting next year is supposed to give a 25%-30% boost in fuel economy, fit right behind the transmission, can be put on almost any vehicle, and only adds a couple hundred dollars to the price tag. that sounds like a winner to me.

and the hydrogen sequel is being tested next year with a hundred vehicle fleet going to three cities, LA, NY, and DC. also, they have a plug in hybrid to be debuted next year.

I just thought you might want to see this. Enviromental activists using "Yes Men"- like tactics infiltrated the LA Auto Show on Nov. 29, 2006 where General Motors Corp. chairman and chief executive Rick Wagoner was giving a speech about their plans to "go green": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4bwptKniHU
