Toyota to intro new ultra-clean diesels in 2008
Toyota is working on ultra-clean diesel engines independently from their recent hook-up with Isuzu. Similarly to the United States and Europe, Japan is introducing stricter emissions requirements for diesel engines for 2009. The new regulations in Japan require particulate emissions of one-third of what is currently allowed there, and one-fifth of what is currently allowed in Europe. Starting in the second half of 2008, Toyota intends to install their new engines in Europe, where forty percent of their sales are already diesels. Toyota has improved emissions through improved fuel injection nozzles and new catalyst technologies to reduce both particulates and nitrogen oxide emissions.[Source: Asahi.com]

I am looking to purchase a new or used car for the first time and don't want to get a run-of-the-mill gasoline car. I can't believe how expensive a diesel car/truck is and how hard it is to find! I mean really...will I have to try and import something from Canada?? I have also noticed in my abroad travels the abundance of diesel fueled cars that could be converted to biofuel. Let's get some of these options in the States!!

Great, but make the engine biodiesel compliant. All cars and trucks need to be ready to accept biodiesel: renewable, co2 neutral, clean, war-free, and biodegradeable (for when, not if, it gets spilled). Oh, and produced DOMESTICALLY.

I just recently returned from Thailand, and almost all of the toyota trucks and mini-vans were clean burning diesel (no typical diesel smell or smoke). Hilux was the truck model not sure of the vans. Why aren't these models being sold in the USA? HMMMM?
