South Carolina spending money to cash in on hydrogen
Just days after North Carolina announced intentions to launch a "go green" strategy with $15 million and lure green companies, like biodiesel producers, to North Carolina, its southern neighbour has announced a nearly identical plan. South Carolina House Speaker Bobby Harrell has proposed the $15 million South Carolina Hydrogen Infrastructure Development Fund which offers state grants and tax credits to promote in-state based hydrogen fuel research partnerships between companies and South Carolina-based institutions. Promoters hope the plan will create jobs and bolster South Carolina as a leader in the developing hydrogen fuel industry, an industry which is expected to be worth more than $2.6 trillion in the next few decades. The University of South Carolina (USC) is likely to use the private sector incentives in helping it sign up private sector research partners. Not everything is coming up oxygen though: USC has yet to find tenants for its new alternative fuel research building currently under construction.

You forgot the minus sign.

Oh, great. Even more money being wasted on an already obsolete fuel.
Well, it won't be the first or last time that some government wasted funds on something they thought was a good idea, but later turns into a huge waste. Remember the Concord!

The apathy is overwhelming… Our nation has to explore a host of alternatives and smarter people than you think hydrogen fuel cells will represent a viable solution.
Your advice seems to be not try anything… You always miss 100% of the shots you never take…

Bud- Yea, but with Hydrogen the shot is at our head and sometimes a miss is a very good thing. In fact… “Hydrogen may be considered to be one of the MOST DESTRUCTIVE GASSES to escape into the atmosphere. It will destroy ozone in an IRREVERSABLE process, reduce oxygen levels and produce water vapor in the stratosphere.” http://www.ozone-depletion.com/. A terrorist’s dream is to have a giant potential BOMB such as a semi-trailer, container ship or tank farm of highly explosive gas such as LNG, H2 etc. parked next to a juicy target. A container ship of this stuff has about the same energy as 55 Hiroshima type nuclear bombs. Are they (including Al “Green” Gore) worried? YOU BET! http://www.timrileylaw.com/LNG.htm
