Toyota takes hybrids to Americans unfamiliar with the technology

As we mentioned the other day, a little part of the San Jose International Auto Show will begin traveling across the country once that show wraps up on Monday. The display by Toyota, called "Highway to the Future: Mobile Hybrid Experience" will embark on a national tour that will hit 150 events across the U.S. (the 48 contiguous states) in the next year-and-a-half. Don't get excited and think you'll be able to test drive some sort of next-gen fuel cell hybrid, though; this traveling circus is all about the Hybrid Synergy Drive system (i.e., the Prius) and is geared towards green car neophytes.
As Celeste Migliore, Toyota's National Manager, Advanced Technology Vehicles said in the press release: "Most people have heard of hybrid technology and probably have a vague idea of how it works, but few have actually driven a hybrid and or taken an up-close look at its operation. This tour allows consumers to learn more about the technology behind this system and the benefits of hybrid vehicles." Doesn't sound like a typical ABG reader, does it? (Actually, it might, because with the recent influx of visitors, I think our readership is much broader than I can even guess) The full schedule will be made available at the Highway to the Future website.
