Goodwill get award for pilot program to reduce solid waste from car plants
Automotive parts and assembly plants produce a lot of solid waste. When they stamp/cut out all the liners, insulation, parts and assorted other components, they always have lots of scraps leftover. The Suppliers Partnership for the Environment, of Washington, has worked to set up the Suppliers Partnership By-product Reduction Facilities program as a pilot program to reuse these scrap materials to create other parts. On Thursday at the Detroit Auto Show, GM vice president for energy and environment, Beth Lowery gave Goodwill an award for their recycling efforts. Goodwill is now looking for other materials to recycle and expand the program to other plants.
