With wide range of choices, electric bikes gaining popularity

\

Electro Ride Bikes & Scooter in Milpitas, California, is a home-based business that continues to grow for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that customers are already familiar with riding electric bicycles and climbing hills is much easier. Rob Means is the founder and sells a wide selection of electric bikes, including models that retail for more than $5,000 (such as the Optibike shown above), in addition to do-it-yourself kits. Means says there are at last 30 manufacturers of electric bikes. As with electric cars, improving battery technology will be key to wider acceptance. Batteries on electric bikes weigh up 20 pounds and offer an 8- to 10-mile range. However, Means may be selling a bike of his own design in the near future with a range of more than 100 miles.
