Sierra Club helps you "Pick Your Poison" and rates oil companies
Here at AutoblogGreen, we try our best to bring you the latest in green automotive news. But what about right now... what if you want to do your best with your current situation. I can certainly understand that, as I would love to own the latest, most fuel-efficient vehicle around, too, but economics dictate that I can't just go out right this minute and spend $20,000 on a new Prius, or more on a Tesla or full electric SUT, like the Phoenix we featured yesterday.
So, maybe we are stuck with your gas burner, and its once again time to fill the tank. Have you ever wondered where to fill based on how hard the oil companies try to do good? Check here. The Sierra Club has put up some good information to help you make an educated choice. Aptly titled "Pick Your Poison", you can check on the activities of the companies you choose to - or have to - support.

Oh, really? And exactly where can you get a Prius for only $20k? List is around $23k (base price), and the local dealers in the north Dallas area are charging a $4000 premium over list -- *and* requiring several add-on packages. Delivered price on a Prius is more like $30k with TT&L.

Even if you do spend $$ on a Prius, it is still a petroleum only vehicle unless you spend more to modify it.
My suggestion is to look for local stations which offer alternative fuel such as E85 and biodiesel. I think you'll find such stations are often locally and independently owned and that the owner really does want to make a difference for the environment and the nation. Even if you are stuck in a petroleum only vehicle, you can still support such local stations with your fuel dollars.
Good examples would be the Sunrise Cooperative of Norwalk, Ohio profiled last year on this site and America's Fuel of Southern Pines, North Carolina featured in a Ford video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7937163889723396237
