State of the Union - I'm guessing Bush couldn't pronounce "cellulosic ethanol"
OK, so the alternative energy part of the President's State of the Union speech went pretty much as expected tonight. He did say "global climate change", which drew plenty of applause, as did his call to reduce gasoline usage by 20 percent in the next ten years. Better fuel economy for cars and using more ethanol are the ways to do this, Bush said. Bush did promote (but didn't try to pronounce) cellulosic ethanol from wood chips, grasses, and agricultural wastes. I can see America using five times more ethanol in 2017 than we do today, as Bush called for, but he also called for increased domestic oil production, which I'm not a fan of. Bush's call for cleaner non-automotive energy was met with the standard list: technology to burn clean coal in power plants, solar wind and nuclear.
Actually, these types of coal alternatives might power the plug-in cars Bush spoke about. For a guy who less than 30 percent of Americans think is doing a good job, his energy plan (and that's all it is, a plan because we've heard a lot of this before) strikes the right tone. But, it's still George W, and he's divisive. I'm waiting for the first remix of Bush's utterings of "biodiesel" "plug-in hybrids" and "ethanol" into a catchy viral video.
We'll have the exact transcript of the speech and more analysis later. This is just my reaction to listening to the speech on the radio. Have at it in the comments.
UPDATE: The transcript is here.

with 95% left wing media...what would you expect.
Most people I know think he's doing pretty good.....but its not like your going to see that on a CNN poll. *rolls eyes*
I liked his whole speech...except for the ilegal immagration part...I'm glad he didn't propose amnesty...but he came close enought to it. saying that he wants "foreigners" to be able to come across the border to get a job much easier...but you know what will happen........when their visa runs out...they stay. There not gonna go from living in an aprtment building with a decent full time job...to a dirt floor and standing around all day swating flies.

How on earth can you back up a statement that the U.S. has "95% left-wing media"? You just have to look at that right-wing sewer pipe Fox News, which has double the audience of its nearest competitor.

Here's a though a**hole (Sebastian). Maybe the majority of the Americans don't know what cellulosic ethanol is, but I'm guessing most of them know what wood chips are. You know, just a thought.

I believe by 'left wing media' he is refering to ABC, CBS, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN, CNN-H, AP, UPI, the NYT, Gannett and basically every other newspaper group.
Just FYI, the non-partisan group that ranks, on a scale of 1 (most conservative) to 100 (most liberal), how liberal or conservative a politician is also ranked the news organizations. The average member of Congress at the time scored a 33. Fox News scored a 27 while CBS scored an 88, whiich means contrary to the portrayal, Fox is actually more in line with the people than CBS.

I agree with #6. Bush used "cellulosic ethanol" in his "addicted to oil" SOTU speech and I think a lot of people were confused by the term. Evidently some of us think the rest of the country is well versed in the methods of making ethanol. Most are not. Hence his use of plainer language. Although I'm not a great fan of Bush, I don't seek to discredit him for not using wonk language to try and sound intelligent (a la Gore and Kerry).
Like him or not, at the very least it sounds like another step in the right direction for alternative fuel. Yes, more could be done but, that is the case with everything.

Well if he can't pronounce "nuclear" correctly...listen to him, he pronounces it "nucular,"... do we really expect him to be able to use the words cellulosic ethanol in a complete, comprehensible sentence?

Gee Sebastian. Not happy with something Bush said? I did not expect that. You being impartial journalist and all.

Arnie, I might be wrong, but I don't think one needs to exhibit the impartiality of a classicly-trained journalist to post in a blog (web log).
I don't think AutoblogGreen counts as a journalism piece. It's a current events weblog on the subject of the environmental movement in relation to automobiles. As you know many people involved in the environmental movement lean to the left politically (though I myself don't).
If you don't agree with the opinions expressed here at AutoblogGreen (I sometimes don't) and it bothers you that much, don't read it.

Ted Kennedy Is My Chauffer-
This is an interesting post -- do you have the actual website on this or something to cite so that I can look into this further? Was this site completely non-partisan or does it lean to the right?
Tnanks for the interesting read on this....
