GM plans to produce hydrogen fuel car by 2010
Despite recognizing that a hydrogen infrastructure will not be in place by 2010, GM plans to go ahead with the production of hydrogen fuel cell cars. Mohsen Shabana, GM's chief engineer on the fuel cell project made this announcement at presentation in Paul Springs, California.Most of you are probably aware that GM has been doing hydrogen research for a long time now. They are on the third version of their Sequel, and have made great progress in its capabilities. This still does not solve the major problems with hydrogen, namely that it takes more power to capture it than it gives off in operation. So, maybe they are counting on home fueling stations?

Mary Beth Stanek (shown) is GM's director of environmental and energy programs and was speaking at a forum sponsored by Successful Farming magazine. She says the industry must ensure that flex-fuel vehicles "are experiencing the fuel." I have a hydrogen fuel station 10 miles from my house.
That said, I'm sure that GM's hydrogen powered cars will be limited to fleet vehicles at first.

Stop hydrogen fuel cells now. Electric cars are far more efficient and they can be made now.

Unfortunatey, not everyone is as lucky as you are, A5-14. Do you know where the hydrogen at the fueling station comes from? Is it from reformed methane or electrolisized water? I realy enjoyed reading "The Hype about Hydrogen". Its a good book for anyone pro or anti hydrogen to read. The author isnt against the technonogy, but he believes that hydrogen fuel cells powered by hydrogen from renewable sources are faaaaaaar off.

They may be able to sell some, if they can find customers that are rich and foolish. Or they can sell to the Government (same thing).

JJ- It never will be "Practical” or readily available. Either it comes from reforming fossil fuels which is cheaper but VERY dirty, or it's electrolyzed from water at 4X the cost. Bottom line is that using Hydrogen to store electrons to power an electric vehicle is 4X LESS efficient than just using batteries. http://www.physorg.com/news85074285.html
