i will vote for Lithium Ion battery technology, since in light on the growing oil prices, this is the way to go. go green should be what the department of energy should be looking at.

Even if they can distort the market, I still think government subsidies are necessary in many cases during the early years in order to support new technologies in the face of entrenched old technologies and their low costs.
Governments need to step in in higher risk areas where private sources of finance fear to tread.
Once they've had the initial kick start, then it can be left to the market.
I vote "none of the above". My favorite would be algae biodiesel, but DOE money is not needed there. Government handouts distort the market, and have the problem of Unintended Consequences.
