Chrysler will close two large-vehicle plants in America in 2008

In another blow to large vehicles in America – and American manufacturing workers – Chrysler is reportedly going to close two manufacturing plants next year. The plants are the Newark, Delaware plant where the Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen SUVs are built, and the St. Louis North factory in Missouri that manufactures the Dodge Ram full-sized pickup, according to Reuters. The plants will be shut down in the third quarter of 2008. Reuters doesn't mention the biodiesel aspect, but the St. Louis North facility is where the B5-laden (and B20-ready) Dodge Ram diesels come from. Production of all the vehicles made at the plants that are closing will be shifted to Michigan facilities.
DaimlerChrysler will release more information tomorrow when details of its reorganization plan are made public. I'll be looking to see if the total number of DC's SUVs and pickups produced will change.

Fair is a 4 lettered word. It is a concept that does not exist in nature. It resides only in the human imagination. As such, it is impossible to clearly define.
This adjustment is simply a natural conservation of energy. Consolidation increases efficiency and lowers costs. My heart goes out to those workers in Newark, Delaware and St. Louis North factory in Missouri. Congratulations to the workers in Michigan. Thank you Chrysler for keeping those jobs in the USA.
Sometimes, hard choices have to be made to effectively compete. Perhaps this will slow the financial hemorrhage that Chrysler is experiencing and give them time to adjust their product line to the ever-changing monopoly manipulated price of fuel.

Two plants too many....when the Germans bought us as a group in the so-called merger did they ever have any intentions of keeping American jobs in the United States....i dont think so.....hemi engines being built in Mexico, new vehicle soon to be imported into the U.S. from Mexico....in the short time they bought us they have already closed two plants, spun off four to German companies and reduced this membership by over 30,000.....Heil Zetsche
