E85 for 85 cents a gallon? Ford, MFA Oil promotion educates consumers about ethanol

Customers at selected gas stations across Missouri could have pumped E85 for just 85 cents a gallon yesterday. The Valentine's Day treat was courtesy of Ford and MFA Oil. Ford will double the number of flex-fuel vehicles it produces by 2010, and is participating numerous education projects to inform consumers about ethanol's benefits. Ford, MFA and Vera Sun Energy were instrumental in developing the Midwest Ethanol Corridor to increase E85 pumps from Kansas City to Chicago.

Ethanol is great stuff... for farmers and all the people receiving government subsidies to make it. And it's terrible stuff for the rest of us who are paying for those subsidies with tax dollars. Study after study shows there is nothing green or sustainable about ethanol. It takes more energy to make than it has, it costs more than what it is supposed to replace, and it doesn't save on petroluem imports.
The idea of an alternative fuel is that it is better, not just different. Get over it people.
