Ford has said for some time that they are working on a new B-Class car, smaller than the Focus for the North American market. I also recently spotted a Ford Fiesta with manufacturer plates on the road in South-East Michigan and Mazda just released preview shots of the new Mazda2 that will debut at the Geneca Motor Show next week. The Mazda2 would seem like an obvious basis for the new small Ford, and now Mark Fields has confirmed that this is indeed the case. Ford of Europe has lead responsibility for the new car that will be sold worldwide, should be on sale here withing two years.

OK, finally! I want it in a three door, and I want the rear seat to fold down (one piece). I needs the old 1.8l engine availabe in the Escort Gt with a six speed manual. It should get nearly 40 MPG and have decent size wheels. And leave enough room under the hood to be able to put a turbo on it so it can pass SOMETHING on the highway.
Just for a note I've owned : Mustange Gt
Probe Gt
Three Escorts including one GT
Three Ford Ranger's
And street raced a couple of AMC Hornets, one with a 304 V8 and a SST tranny and rear end. So please don't tell me small cars can't be fun.
By the way when will Chevy bring back the chevette with the iron duke??

The current Fiesta is already based on the current Mazda 2 platform, so nothing new here...
The only news is that the future Fiesta will now be sold in the US.

it's great we're getting this car in the states--it's just disappointing it won't be the mazda2. i am expecting it to be boring instead of the new sport mazda has given this zoom-zoomer.
