Whale blubber to be converted into biodiesel; vehicle tailpipes may smell like Moby Dick
Green Options blogger Clayton Bodie Cornell yesterday analyzed the implications of the end of a moratorium on commercial whaling. In effect, biodiesel production now has a renewable and bountiful source of feedstock. Petroleum companies are rushing to convert oil tankers into whaling ships that can refine the blubber on the open sea. The fuel can then be delivered to the country paying the highest prices. Environmentalists cried foul, hoping such a move wouldn't come until gasoline hit $5. They also claim that harvesting every whale in the ocean will only put a small dent in the world's appetite for fossil fuels. Good job on investigating all angles of this important story, Clayton. You give new meaning to the battle cry, "Free Willie!" Or will that name be trademarked as a competitor to BioWillie?

They had better label Biodiesel that comes from animal sources because as an animal activist I would refuse to purchase it.
