Ricardo showcases micro hybrid technology at the New York Auto Show

As a part of the Taxi '07 exhibit at this years New York Auto Show, British based engineering company Ricardo is going to be showcasing their micro hybrid system. Urban taxis used in locations like New York are ideal applications for hybrids due to a lot of starting and stopping which allows for a lot of regenerative braking. The micro hybrid system is a start stop system similar to the Bosch system recently unveiled on the BMW 1-Series at the Geneva Motor Show. Ricardo estimates that if their system were installed on all the taxis in New York City alone, it would save 10.8 million gallons of gasoline and 105,000 tons of CO2 per year. ABG will take a closer look when we get to New York for the show.
