Video coverage on green technology at the New York Autoshow
Is it a good thing or a bad thing to say that going green has gone mainstream? I dunno myself. If the mainstream media continues to cover green technology, I guess that more and more consumers will be introduced to the idea that they can make mainstream decisions in their lives that can help the environment and possibly save themselves a few buckaroos in the process. But, if the media does as Discovery Channel did with their coverage of all that is green in automobiles, then there could be just as much misinformation floating around as good solid reporting. Any comments on that?
I think that getting the news of the mini Chevy concepts, the current hybrids and clean diesels out there is more important than the fact that many people don't know just how far off hydrogen as a fuel just might be. When consumers go car shopping, and they see some of the current green technology in the showroom that they just saw on the major news stations it could spur a possible purchase. Your mileage may vary, literally.

"Green" and conservation (conservative) should be as normal as breathing. Anything to the contrary is counterproductive. Humans are social herd animals. In general, we don't feel "safe" if our neighbors aren't doing the same things and going in the same general direction. Trying to be the biggest and strongest of the herd is natural because it is those who choose the best mates and pass on their genetic material. Think plumage! SUV and giant houses show others “look at me! I’m so strong and productive that I can afford to be wasteful.” This chest-pounding is a normal basic species survival instinct. Darwin 101
Humans learn best by mimicking behavior not talk. You know, monkey see… It’s destructive when the heard SEES hypocritical “leaders” like Al “chicken little” Gore, ultra-wealthy democratic-socialists elitist like John “Pepe LePew” Kerry, the Neocons and the Hollywood elitists talking the talk while not personally changing directions. The herd likes to follow, not be told where to go!
The world will be a better place once the intellectual and powerful truly LEAD the mainstream in the green movement. This will change the direction of the herd and waste, pollution and destruction will no longer accepted as “normal” mainstream. Media “programming” can be beneficial in this area. Maybe it will help them make-up for the many past indigestions.
Time will tell…

Bluetec is NOT a cleaner type of diesel fuel. It's a set of exhaust gas aftertreatment technologies for meeting the extremely strict EPA Tier 2 and CARB LEV II emissions standards for light duty vehicles.
One of the two lean-burn NOx mitigation technologies in DCX' portfolio is called selective catalytic reaction (SCR). It relies on an additive called AdBlue which is stored in its own tank separate from the fuel and is injected directly into the exhaust system. SCR is already in use today in electric power plants, industrial furnaces and European heavy duty vehicles. DCX is now scaling it down for use in LDVs and, has licensed it to VW.

All clean diesel technologies require fuel that is very low (15ppm max) to ensure the emissions limits are observed for the full 100,000 (150,000) mile required by the regulations. The US cut over to this new ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) last fall for all on-road use. This was a prerequisite for the 80% decrease in NOx emissions HDV manufacturers must achieve in all new models between 2007 and 2010.

Want really clean diesel? Algae B100 with electric tank & line heaters that can be plugged-in when the vehicle is parked for a period of time to eliminate gelling!
