San Francisco offspring of Beavis and Butthead promote biodiesel, and shame us all
Just watch.
Obvious comments need not be posted. Let's be kind to the feeble minded who generated this insipid video developed in cooperation between Pacific Gas & Electric and the city of San Francisco.
But I do think the dull-witted braintrust behind this video has been drinking water from Hinkley (Google Erin Brockovich if you don't understand the connection). I'm trying to figure out the motive: are they making fun of farmers and exploiting stereotypes? Or did they develop these characters after looking in a mirror? What do Laurie David and Sheryl Crow have to say after putting so much effort in promoting biodiesel recently?
Just ask yourself; what does vandalism and animal abuse have to do with biodiesel? I have a liberal sense of humor, but come on; this is just plain stupid and insulting to anyone who cares about alternative fuels. Let's hope marketers with more intelligence are in charge of biodiesel promotions elsewhere. Any more clueless PSAs like this and I'll be second-guessing biodiesel.
On second thought, maybe you should comment.

As a resident of deepest rural Alabama, I found it pretty funny. Yes the ad was stupid. But it gets people's attention and I'd imagine it'd be hard for even the densest viewer to misunderstand that biodiesel comes from crops. Isn't that a step forward?

Hey, I'm from California originally, and live in the Midwest now. I didn't find this ad offensive at all! I thought it was dumb, surely, but I think it gets one's attention and has a really simple but important message clearly presented in print at the end.
I almost wonder if the blogger was maybe in a bad mood when s/he wrote it? I know I can sometimes misinterpret or exaggerate things when I'm in a bad mood.
I think this ad could have a positive impact. Since it's not overtly a "green" ad at the onset, it won't turn people off who are getting tired of all the environmentalism in the media lately, or folks like me who are getting REALLY tired of greenwashing. Yeah, so I liked it.
Go BIODIESEL!!!

I concur with #1 and #2. I think it's intent was to highlight the stereotype of ignorance, nothing more. They were supposed to be ignorant, the acts they commited showed that and it led to thier demise. And I think it was dumb, but funny.

Being from deep East Texas.... I found this to be a hoot. Yes it was dumb and funny at the same time.

How was this offensive? It shows two douchebags getting run over by a biodiesel tractor. It was funny. Great animation, too.

I agree with the other comments, though I think they could have made a better ad then that.

Feeble minded? Insipid video? Dull-witted braintrust? Drinking water from Hinkley? Stupid and insulting? Clueless?
And yet YOU'RE the one who can't figure it out.
The message seems clear: "What are you, stupid? Biodiesel is easy."
Maybe your "liberal" sense of humor is the problem.
The thing about people with no sense of humor is that they think they have a sense of humor.
Thumbs up to PG&E for an attention-grabbing spot with a clear and effective message. Thumbs down to oversensitive bloggers.
