Hey there $3/gallon gas! Long time no see. How've ya been?
I'm sure some of our European readers simmer with envy that gas is so cheap (comparatively) in America, but for many Americans the current prices look quite pricey. According to AAA, gas prices are about as high today as they've been in the last twelve months, which doesn't really bode well for the upcoming summer months, historically a time of higher gas prices. I wonder how people who still drive gas guzzlers are feeling about another summer of $50+ fill ups. The national average for gas prices in America today was $2.977, more than a penny higher than yesterday. A year ago we were looking at $2.92, and the highest price in the last twelve months was $3.03. And, based on the trend we see in the graph, we can expect average gas prices to rise by about 9-10 more cents in the next month or so. Who's up for a bike ride?

Any Chance E85 will be priced lower instead of just following the price of regular gas. I'd love to fill up with something that's better for the environment and actually costs less.

Haha, wow, gas here is 3.35 and thats the cheap, low end gas. We've been seeing 3+ for several weeks now (west coast). Gosh it would be nice to see 2.97

Our households need the third of energy than yours. It's not too late now. But it seems that you are overtaking us with new EVs.
But it's the right way, you have to kick the butt of the german automobile-industry to hurry up with that, too! ;-)

We complained the first time gas reached $2 a gallon....but the second time we accepted it. We complained the first time gas reached $3 a gallon......but the second time we will accept it. When gas reaches $4 a gallon....we will complain, the second time we will accept it. We humans are so predicatble.

It's not just Europe, this is even cheaper than Asia. Over $4/Gallon here in India (INR44/liter).
Last I checked, an average US citizen earns over 55 times an average Indian.

Petrol in the UK is the equivalent of more than $7 per gallon. And let's face it, prices really aren't going to drift down long term...

$3.00+ for a gallon of gasoline is BS. We are being screwed by the very people we elect to serve as our government representatives. A very vocal minority of environmental screwballs have cowed our gutless politicians into buying into their vision of the world which flies in the face of how the vast majority of us want to live our lives. We are swimming in oil, but we cannot go get it, we cannot refine more of it. We are screwing ourselves for no good reason, and don't give me this global warming crap because it is just that - crap.

gasoline prices are right in line with inflation. i bought a new 1953 chevy that cost $1300 and gasoline was $.27 a gallon. now a new chevy costs $13,000 and gasoline is $2.75 right in line with inflation. if gasoline had gone up in price over the years like everything else no one would be complaining and the new chevys get twice the gasoline milage of the 1953

Looking at the chart, apparently the price or even the supply of crude has little effect on the wholesale price of gas. It seems like Big Oil is increasing and easing the price to stem public outcry why they slowly increase the overall price over time. I smell mobopoly!

bill, we are not 'swimming in oil'. There have been no new major finds since the 1970s, not to mention no slack capacity and much lower reserves. When you couple strained production to old refineries operating below optimum capacity (not to mention the way they have been pushed offshore where operating costs are much higher), and then add in import costs and the squeeze of OPEC quotas, you have -- you guessed it -- higher prices! In addition, oil is traded on an open market, meaning "environmental screwballs" and the government have nothing to do with where the price goes. All that aside, to simply announce that global warming is "crap" doesn't really help any argument you might make.

@11 higher prices? Yes. However, if prices were so high, then how can Big Oil rake in 75% profit increases during this recent run during the current administration? I don't buy it. If things are as bad for Big Oil and they are for us, they'd be losing jobs, shutting down operations, etc. However, they are rewarding CEOs with huge raises and record profits tell me, that increased profits at the pumps are not directly related to increased costs to oil barrels and refinery issues which would negatively affect the bottom line.

Peak Oil is approaching fast, so big oil turns up the prices quickly to maximize profits and turns it down again when we get ready to jump. Once we settle down, they turn it up again. Up and down and so on is how they are getting record profits. Any other excuse is just smoke and mirrors. Look at the graph and there is little correlation between the crude price and wholesale/retail prices. It’s called “What the market will bear” pricing. We need to get rid of oil and NOT WITH HYDROGEN!!
