2009 Honda Accord diesel to hit 52 mpg!
The 2009 Honda Accord diesel looks set to make up for the mileage shortcomings of the soon to be deceased hybrid model in a big way. The new diesel is apparently derived from the 2.2L diesel that is currently available in European market Accords, one of which was shown recently with with a new emission control system at a diesel conference in California. That car is apparently capable of 52mpg which, if replicated by the production version, will put it well ahead of anything else in its class. The best part is drivers will never have to add any urea like they do with the BlueTec diesels from Mercedes and VW. [Source: AutoCar]

I can't help but think that the Fit IS the functional (and aesthetic) update of the Civic wagon of the late 80's. Isn't there a diesel Fit (Jazz) somewhere, or am I making that up?
I think that would be a winner... of course I think that about the Fit already.

Hope they put in the sound-dampening, like they did in my '06 Accord Hybrid I just bought for a low used price - and love it!! It is a fabulous car for the used price I paid...with loads of acceleration, as I blast past BMW's and Mercedes on the road, and still get 25-32 mpgs; with the sound dampening system... I didn't like the road noise from Fit or Civic. Hydraulic control unit for ABS was a recall notice, but was fixed under warranty. The '06 - '07 Accord Hybrid was a gem, just too expensive new.

Our Liberty diesel is wonderful: economy, capability, reliability, survivability, go anywhere, pull anything. Lord have mercy! They dropped it!!!!!!!!!!!!! If ChryCo doesn't correct their foolishness I will get another VDub.

they need the odysse van diesel and ridgeline and piolet too.
i wish my tacoma was diesel or hybrid. cars that get high mpg make great use of hybrid and diesel but low mpg things like mine need it more
ELEMENT DIESEL would be the coolest!!!

Just as neat diesels are coming out, diesel fuel is going up every day. At the point where gas is 3/4 the price of diesel, it's about a break even. This is sad and we are almost there now. I'd like to see them put the diesel in the Odyssey or the Pilot as well as the cars-all of them. I've driven a diesel Mercedes for 17 years and just love it. They say the frequency of vibration at idle is the same as a cat purring, and I find it enjoyable. Hope the oil companies don't ruin it.

Biodiesel is a real product, viable as it is, without subsidy (like ethanol). As soon as this gets mainstream press, diesels will be the greeny thing of choice.

Volvo, VW, Audi, BMW/Mercedes, SAAB, Subaru, Honda, all have teased us with glimpes of high mpg diesel wagons. None have ACTUALLY delivered. WHY????? With potential customers standing, waiting, with money in hand, why won't they sell us the very vehicles available everywhere else on the planet, EXCEPT here??? Over and over I read about CARB. @#$^@#%^* CARB! I don't live in California. Why should they dictate what I can buy in 45 OTHER states???? HHHHmmmmmm Maybe a class action? Even though I hate lawyers. Maybe this would be the time for 45 other states to sue the california air resources board for restraint of trade under the "Commerce Clause".
I don't like the idea. But I see nothing but excuses without end as to why we can't buy either A vehicle that gets great mileage. Or maybe one that doesn't use oil at all (except maybe for bearing grease).

I have never been more disappointed than when they stopped the Honda Accord wagon. I would be seriously inclined to buy the first Diesel Accord and jumping for joy if it also came as a wagon. I am tired of being force fed the crossover auto market and refuse to purchase a new vehicle until the market offers wagons other than the high end versions that I cant afford.

Honda, how about a Diesel Element??
Or Civic? Or Fit?
Things that will get us Eco-geeks excited!!
I just bought a 2007 Honda Civic - but I will trade it in for a Diesel Element in a second.

My Wife and I have one child and will only have one more so no Minivan for me. I already own an Element 4WD and love it!!! All I want is the same with the diesel engine. the extra 100ft/lbs of torque and extra 20MPG would come in real handy.
2 adults, 2 kids, plenty of "trunk" space, and room on top with the cargo carrier is all I need.
My wife and I spent our Honeymoon in europe and rented a diesel Citroen C4. Drove it in tight city streets in Paris and Brugge and all over Germany. We also drove the heck out of it on the autobahn. We loved it. I had no problem getting it to it's limit of 120MPH and cruised at over 100MPH for a few hours at a time. WE drove over 1500 miles and got an average of 37MPG.
Go Diesel!!
Chris.

I was in mexico a few weeks ago and saw an awsome full sized van (was either Toyota or VW) Diesel.
Like the comment earlier, I have 3 kids and we are not ready to give up on mini-vans yet. Our 2000 Odyssey is OK but 22mpg is the best we ever got on a slow, flat hwy trip. Diesel Odyssey would be swell. Under $30k would be the cherry on top.
Diesel fit/civic hatch/wagon would also be great.

With VW coming out with their Diesel in 2009 that gets 55 mpg you would expect a diesel hybrid to get more! If HONDA can not produce a 85 mpg Diesel Hybrid than I think I would be better off with the VW Diesel.
I'm looking forward to seeing Offically what this new Honda Diesel Hybrid gets mpg wise.

My neighbor OWNS a Honda dealership in Los Angeles County. I asked him today about the release of the 2009 Accord sometime this year. He said he had only heard rumors and had no real proof that the 2009 diesel Accord was really coming this year. Can the diesel Accord actually not be around until 2010? I hope my neighbor was just keeping a release date secret, because I really want to trade in my BMW 5 Series for this Honda. Is there proof of an imminent release, like maybe a press release from Honda USA? Or are we just engaging in wishful dreaming?

Diesel actual MPG are usually better than stated. And under actual driving conditions a diesel always does way better than gas. Also people brag HP, but drive Torque. Europe has had peppy fast 80 mpg diesels (way more car than a hybrid or a Metro
) for quite a while. Germany is coming out with 150 mpg diesel, by simply keeping it simple. 12k price too. I wish Detroit would get their heads out of their ass, or fire all their market research people.

Well lets see, 52 MPG that sounds familiar... Oh yeah that is what I got on several trips from Charleston, SC to Chicago 917 miles one way on one take of Diesel in my 1997 VW Passat TDI.. Gee still drive it and I get mid 40's around town.
Now I would love to trade her in for a Diesel Honda Pilot that gets a good MPG. Other wise I will pimp my ride and run her for another 150k miles. Maybe start my own BioDiesel Plant.
