Honda, the world's greenest automaker, starts producing solar panels
You have to give credit to Honda. They really seem to take their role as the greenest automaker seriously. Let's run down a few points: their fleet post the highest combined average fuel mileage in America, instead of selling advertising rights for their high-profile F1 race cars they put a big earth picture on them, they make all the ethanol powered Indy Car engines... and now they make solar panels. At this point, they are not installing said solar panels on their vehicles - nor do I expect them to. The solar cells are only being sold for homes and businesses. The endeavor is an attempt "to further accelerate [their] efforts to reduce the threat of global warming," according to this post on Inside Line. The automaker has created a subsidiary called Soltec for the creation of the cells.

Yay! Honda is awesome! Overall, they are clearly the greenest auto maker. The only problem with them is that they seem a bit tied to the ICE. For example, in their hybrids the electric motor almost never solely drives vehicles. I'm not complaining, as I believe Honda makes the best engines from a green perspective. i.e. the new diesel engine system from Honda and the older Honda Insight engine that won "engine of the year" for seven years straight! (in the sub 1 liter category)
Anyway, maybe this is Honda's step to a more electrically driven world?

solar energy has a bright future (no pun intended), I wouldn't mind having solar panels...if they were cheap enough, and had low maintenece. My reasons are because that I set the price of my eletric bill...no fluxuation.
the planet doesn't need saving, we are not hurting the planet by using fosil fuels. *rolls eyes*

murc, solar photovoltaic cells are zero maintenance. I've had mine for a year and they just crank out electricity when the sun shines. The cheap part is tough, you'll pay thousands of dollars for peak generation of just one or two kilowatts.
