Nissan releases pricing on 2008 Versa, from $12,550

Nissan has announced pricing for the 2008 version of their smallest US Market car, the Versa. The Versa can be had as either a four door sedan of hatchback, with the former starting at $12,550 and an extra $100 for the hatch. Both versions can have their 1.8L four cylinder paired up with either a shift it yourself six-speed, we'll shift for you four speed or a CVT.
The most efficient CVT version is rated at 27/33mpg city/highway (new 2008 EPA numbers) which is rather unimpressive for such a small car. The Versa sedan is also now available with the sport package. Fortunately the sport package won't have any real impact on the efficiency since it only raises the level of "performance styling" without addressing the actual measurable performance.

I never really liked Nissan. Nothing really seems to stand out about their cars.

The Versa weighs 250-300 lbs. more than the Fit and has a 1.8 versus a 1.5 liter engine.
Looks like a 3-4 mpg advantage for the Honda.

But those aren't '08 Fit numbers.
Looks like Nissan fixed the terrible programming of the CVT.
It has the widest ratio spread, and the tallest top gear, so it should get the best mileage.

FYI.....Honda's Fit w/CVT also goes down to 27/34 with paddle shifts and 27/35 without them. Soooooo...there really isn't THAT much of a difference . Are you also going to call the Fit mileage "unimpressive"?? My guess is probably not.

Mileage is a joke.
My 20 year old Accord got better.
Better bring over some diesel options for 2009!

#5, and my 83 Civic got better mileage than your 20 year old Accord, but both were death traps by today's standards, no airbags, would fail today's crash standards, etc.
I will give the Versa credit that it drives and feels substantial, like a real car. A diesel would be nice too.

Comparing 08 EPA figures to 07 and earlier figures is an apples and oranages comparison. We won't know if the Versa milage figures are good, bad or indifferent till all the 08 numbers are available.

Please Nissan, bring this Tiida to Central Europe and not just to Slovenia, Spain, Hungary and Romania. And please bring it with the great small 1.5l dci with 100hp!
I do not want the Qashgai which is Nissan's official car in the "Golf class" here!

Tell Nissan we are waiting for a all electric. When will the people get the message. Just say no to new cars without all electric options.
