Malaysia facing B5 implementation problems
Malaysia is going to delay its plans for a mandatory 5 percent of biodiesel blended into regular diesel pumps (B5). The biodiesel production (which is obtained from palm oil and called Envodiesel) facilities are far from being ready and are suffering delays.
Two more plans are going to be finished this year, raising production from 450,000 tons to half a million. However, the Malayisian government predictions state a need for a global production of one million to be able to cope with demand. Therefore, the government wants to achieve these figures by the end of this year (far from the actual figures) and will incentivate new manufacturing plants.
Biodiesel producers are seriously concerned about these plans because palm oil prices have risen in the last few months.
