GM working on new small global four cylinders in Korea and China

The smallest engine currently offered by General Motors in North America is 1.6L four-cylinder engine in the Daewoo-built Aveo and it may soon be replaced by a new design. General Motors reportedly has their engineering teams at Daewoo in South Korea and the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center Co. in Shanghai, China working on a new small four-cylinder engine family.

The new engines will likely be available in at least 1.4L and 1.6L sizes and possibly more. The engine is to be derived from Suzuki design that is currently built by Shanghai GM and should be on the market in 2009.
