GE to supply turbines for new 130MW wind farm in Turkey
A new 130MW wind farm is being installed in Bahce, Turkey that will add to the 84MW of wind power in place in the country at the beginning of this year. General Electric Energy will be supplying 52 of their latest 2.5MW wind turbines for the project. The new turbines have a rotor diameter of 328 ft and have twelve percent more annual energy yield than GE's previous model. The new turbine also has the ability to operate at average wind speeds as low as 19mph. Turkey has been moving aggressively on installing wind power, going from 19MW at the start of 2006 to 84M this year and now on to 214MW with this project.[Source: GE Energy]

It's amazing to me that a turbine can be 12% more efficient than a previous model. Wind turbines seem like such a simple mechanical device yet continue to spur innovations in energy gains.

IT IS A PITY WITH ALL NEW AND IMPROVED WIND POWER TURBINES TECHNOLOGIES THAT OUR COUNTRY WOULD NOT INVEST MORE MONEY ON SWITCHING TO THIS TYPE OF ENERGY THAT WOULD DO AS MUCH FOE OUR ENERGY SEQUIRITY OR MORE THAN THE BILLIONS WE ARE POURING IN IRAQ.THEY HAVE OIL TO EXPORT THEY CAN PAY FOR THEIR RECONSTRUCTION.WE NEED TO DEVELOP OUR WIND POWER FULLY(ATLANTIC COAST ,MIDWEST,THE ROCKIES,IT COULD POTENTIALLY FREE US FROM IMPORTED OIL.IT TAKES OUR WILL,WISE USE OF TAXPAYER'S MONEY AND COURAGE.
I WOULD LOVE THE DAY I COULD DRIVE AN H2 CAR TROUGH US1 WATCHING WIND POWER TURBINES ON MY WAY !
