Video: Bob Lutz talk about the Chevy Triplets in America
GM's Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, as you probably know from our previous posts, is giving fans some video responses to their questions about GM's current and future plans. His most recent post is about the Chevy Triplets - the Beat, Trax and Groove - that were unveiled earlier this year in New York. While the three cars as shown do not meet U.S. safety standards and will hit foreign markets instead of the domestic one, modifications to these concepts could be made for the production vehicles to be sold here in the U.S. Just not right now, K?
Lutz admits that GM is "absolutely" playing up the Triplets for all they're worth and that they were introduced in New York so that the press would realize that GM is a global company. 2007 is the third year in a row where GM will sell and produce more vehicles outside of the U.S. than in the U.S. Russia, Brazil and India are all high-growth markets for GM, Lutz says, so get on board, media.

"I don't owe you anything"
What a chip this guy has on his shoulder. This is the attitude the auto industry takes to washington to fight CAFE standards. He is trying to run a business purely as any other business when in fact the car industry is key to the environmental and energy future of this country.
It's attitudes like this that really make me question their sincerity with the Volt concept.

I think you are neglecting to take that phrase into the context of everything he was saying. Could he have done a better job with the whole thing? Sure. Not worth getting our panties in a bind though.

I agree with Frank 78 on this. Sometimes there are posters on the Fastlane Blog that are arrogant and take on the attitude that GM owes them an explanation of their corporate decisions, products, etc. It is really a courtesy to the consumer that Bob as top-level management is divulging ANYTHING at all involving their future plans and product. Many people are very critical of him, but Bob is at least out there willing to discuss product. GM's Fastlane Blog is about the only thing of its kind out there that I know of. I don't see Toyota, Honda, Ford, Chrysler, or anybody else for that matter offer a corporate public blog as GM does. And here's the kicker...they accept and post all comments, except for ones with profanity or personal attacks of course. Who else does that? Go ahead and rack your brains awhile--I would like to know.
