BusinessWeek profiles Tesla Motors

BusinessWeek has just published a profile of one of our favorite car companies Tesla Motors. The article doesn't really have much in the way of new information aside from the code name to the WhiteStar follow up. If all goes according to plan we should see the BlueStar in about five years with a targeted price of around $30,000. If you haven't been following the tale of Tesla Motors, the new article is a pretty decent primer that wraps up the story so far.
San Carlos, CA Tesla is being set up in much the same way as most Silicon Valley companies, with venture capital funding and the internal staff handling product design and development while manufacturing is outsourced. Employees also get stock options in the company. Even a different kind of car company needs some engineers with experience and they've hired a bunch of Detroit veterans at their facility in Rochester Hills, MI.

Hmm...
This article says that the first Tesla Roadster are coming off the production line this October.
I guess Tesla Motors is still right on track!!!

Most interesting was a line near the end. Quote "If necessary, the company would be willing to use a small gas engine to boost Blue Star's range and broaden its appeal." Blue Star is the internal code name for their 3rd model, to be priced about $30,000
Sounds like a range extender is in the works...

I wouldn't say it's "in the works". I'd say they are hedging their bets, just in case battery technology doesn't follow the optimistic path they are hoping for. It would be foolish to completely rule out a PHEV at this point, but I'd suspect a range extender is Plan B rather than Plan A for the Blue Star.

Sounds like Bluestar is poised to compete with the Volt...$30,000 with gas engine range extender. Similar concepts in my opinion.
Tony, glad to see you're still around and keep everyone posted on your Roadster, delivery date, etc.
