Müller will produce ethanol the milky way
Müllermilch is a famous German producer of absolutely decadent dairy desserts. However, milk production is not one of the cleanest industries in the world and we have found out today that one of the side products is lactose-based molasses, which were traditionally used to feed animals. Hey, but molasses are sugars, aren't they? So Müller decided to try converting them into ethanol. The principle is simple: Ferment the sugars to obtain ethanol. To do so, Müller has invested 20 million EUR in a factory that will convert this former by-product into ethanol. If you think that chemo-dairy is weird, I once read that EU butter excedents are used to make paint. The EU produces more milk than Europeans drink.
Müller's target is producing 10 million liters of ethanol for next year.

So, what are the animals going to eat if all these food based wastes are shifted from animal feed to automobile fuel?

Tim makes a good point. A point that applies to all ethanol production. How much as the price of USDA ("corn fed") beef gone up in the last year or so since the price of corn has doubled?
How enslaved are we by our vehicles that we're now feeding them food we could eat?

I had a social studies teacher who told us of an occasion where the UN or US rendered aid to a starving country in Africa and among the airlifted crates of food was powdered milk. Unfortunately the local inhabitants were not accustomed to drinking dairy and lacked the enzymes in their systems to digest it--effectively rendering them lactose intolerant. It turned out that the locals had taken to painting their homes with the white powder! I don't doubt your butter story in the least.
