Paris Hilton gives up her Range Rover for an Escape Hybrid, is scared for the environment
Today we have a report that puts one more hybrid in the not so capable hands of a celebrity. The celebrity: our favorite hotel heriess, Paris Hilton. The car: the Ford Escape hybrid. She apparently was given the car, which is nice, and will be replacing her Range Rover. The good news is that this gets one more gas guzzler off the roadways in Hollywood, the bad news is that Paris does not exactly have a shining driving record. AutoblogGreen is certainly no TMZ or anything, so I won't go into depth regarding her frequent run-ins with the law. Suffice it to say, though, that the law won.
Here are some of Paris' other revelations from BPM's green party at Los Angeles' Avalon nightclub:
"I'm getting a car from Ford, a hybrid one. They gave me one. So, I think driving hybrid cars is the new way to go, and recycling." She followed with, "I just want this world to be a better place for my grandchildren. I'm scared with what's going on in the environment, so I hope people will help and make a difference. Everyone can."
She is absolutely right about everyone being able to make a difference. By driving an Escape hybrid, Paris is making a statement that her fans hopefully will appreciate.

I find it totally hypocritical that Hilton and many other Hollywood celebrities boast on their "green purchases" while living in homes with 22 toilets and pools wasting water, using gobs or hairspray, driving in Limos (real green), and my list could go on. Shame on all of you hypocrites....give of your money until it hurts....and not by buying yourself something.

Sadly, this is very important to the green movement. There are a lot of stupid (gullible) people in this world that are more in tune with the media/style world, rather than making educated decisions on their own. The more media attention the green movement gets, the better. It means we may have more environmental copycats just for the sake of what the Hollywoodies are doing. What ever it takes to get people buying better cars ...

Now she can consume less gas driving home from the bar.
In any event, she is not taking one more gas guzzler off the road. The range rover will not be destroyed, it will be sold to someone who couldn't afford it new - and they will drive that range rover around. Possibly replacing an older less attractive yet more fuel efficient vehicle...
I can't believe I commented on a Paris Hilton story. But the concept of "removing a gas guzzler" is a fallacy unless the older car is destroyed. Through attrition many older cars take decades to remove from the roads (except in places where they salt the roads, those cars rust out in mere years).

I've never had such mixed emotions about anything I've read on a blog in my life.

With the way she drives this should be good durability testing for Ford.

LOL, yeah 10-to-1 that her Escape is destroyed before the old Range Rover is. So who's buy the Range Rover and putting it up on eBay? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

That's HOT green news! If it's like plenty other things Paris touches...it turns to gold. Kudos to Ford. (Hey I think she's trying to evolve into a more responsible person.)
I've got my on the Escape Hybrid myself. http://jenningsandersonford.com/vehicles/new/lineup/ford-escape-hybrid

Her vehicle should be alcohol fueled so she could just breath to power it

Give the girl some slack. We all did dumb things when we were young. If we looked as good, were as rich, and had a famous names we probably would have gotten into even more trouble. I’m sure it’s not easy having the whole world always staring at you. I bet that sometimes that silver spoon can get really heavy. Anyway, to error is human and to forgive divine. I'm no hypocrite, so I will not be throwing any stones a Paris. I just hope she gets thought this faze of her life and finds peace. Plus, I’m a little jealous.

#3, i bought my range rover used and i can afford to buy a new one. why would you buy a new one knowing that Land Rover has the worst depreciation of all manufacturers. no other car will lose 50% in 2 years. you'd be a fool to buy it new.

For those who think it's meaningless because somebody bought her old gas guzzler, consider this: If that Range Rover hadn't come on the market, what would that "buyer" (the one that bought the used Rover) have purchased instead? Probably another Range Rover or other SUV, maybe even a new one. Highly unlikely to have bought a hybrid. Think of it as displacing the sale of at least one new SUV, and increasing the sale of fuel efficient hybrids by at least one.
So, overall, it is a small step in the right direction for that blundering rich heiress, finally learning things she should have learned long ago.

If Ford gave everyone an Escape Hybrid I am sure everyone would be more than happy to drive it and help save the environment. I know, have them sell the Range Rover and Ford can use those proceeds to give me and my friends the same car they gave Paris for free. Who out there would not want to do their share if Ford gave you a car to do your part?
