Video: Arguments against renewable fuels in the energy bill
While there won't be debate on the CAFE standard already in the energy bill, there is debate on renewable fuels. The video is representative Steve Chabot of Ohio on the money going to renewable fuels in the energy bill. Steve says billions of dollars is already in the farm bill supporting renewable fuels and the energy bill just exacerbates that. He thinks there is no need because the market for renewable fuels is doing just fine.
In the energy bill debate, Dingell made an appearance on the floor but did not talk about CAFE. Representative Brian Bilbray spoke against the ethanol mandate. Bilbray says it's not good for consumers or the environment. You can watch that video below the fold.

I've spent a lot of time in Iowa and I know what pork smells like. Some say it smells like money, others say it smells like crap! Whatever you think it smells like, there is a LOT of it in the farm bill.
However, the Democrats were successful in breaking house rules during a midnight vote right before a weekend break to buy Latino votes by giving welfare and other benefits to ILLEAGAL aliens.
I know some of you don’t like FOX, but they were the ONLY network to even report about it. You have to see this to believe it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyEfmDtxdhM
The Democrats are saying to Mexico, “crawl across our boarder, break our laws, steal our jobs and you’ll be rewarded with free money from our citizens.”
It’s our money, it’s our open boarder and it’s our lives and security! What part of ILLEAGAL do these “Lawmakers” NOT understand? Are they all insane?

Hamster- I'd love to, but I understand that the Dems expunged the individual record because the house voting machine was not “working proper".
SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

Hamster- Hunter, Paul and Tancredo did not vote according to the link below. That's common. They don't want it coming up in a debate. Kucinich voted for it. Most of the other Dems are senators. This was the house vote.

I can't say I think subsidies are a great idea either. Rather than pandering to corn farmers, why not let the market decide what ethanol crop is most cost-effective? Many sources have said corn is sub-optimal compared to alternative biofuels available now.
If the market needs a push away from fossil fuels, I would rather see a gasoline tax rather than artificially low prices in other places. I don't want to see the entrenchment of a new fuel if it is little better than our current situation, and that's what I'm afraid of if the subsidies continue stacking - an artificial solution that once again hides its true cost.
