Remember what I said?

This picture is intended to make 2 points:
1. The exterior of automobiles is made out of soft steel/aluminum. Wrapping more soft steel around you - as in an SUV - doesn't mean you are safer. It only means you are heavier.
2. Sometimes it is best to evaluate where you are parking before you park there.
NOTE: I am not advocating that cars be made tree-proof

The point would have been better-illustrated if it was an SUV that got crushed :)

Actually, something like this would be a more interesting test of EV battery safety than the recent "nail test" posting.
Lots of metal being pushed into places it wasn't designed to be - a good battery safety system should be able to handle such a situation without catching on fire, or endangering occupants or rescue crews.

I just don't think any occupants of that particular vehicle have much cause for concern from exploding batteries.
But Phil's point is well-made... of course a 3' oak log would do wonders to a gas tank sitting right next to a hot exhaust pipe too.

I do wonder, how a race car with a steel safety cage would put up to a tree.
